TIME FOR THE TORCH!
Come and cheer our torch-bearing heroes
We’ve had our own KEEN Olympics, raised some valuable funds with the Gold Challenge and now it’s time to get behind our very own torch-bearing champions. We’d love as many people as possible to come and cheer Kaush, Millie and Cameron as they proudly carry the Olympic flame in recognition of the great work they do for KEEN.
Kaush will be up first on Saturday 21st July in Waltham Forest, then it’s Millie’s turn on Sunday 22nd July in Ilford. Finally, it’s the comeback we’ve all been waiting for, when Cameron returns to London for his big moment in Lambeth on Thursday 26th July. This is the day before the Olympic Opening Ceremony, so the excitement will be intense!
We’d love to see as big a crowd as possible for all our torch-bearers so please try to come along if you can. We won’t know final details of exactly when and where our runners will be until a few days before they run so please keep an eye on our Facebook page - and watch our for email updates with all the final details.

TEEN KEEN TAKES OFF
New directions for Teen Athletes
TEEN KEEN has really taken off in the last few months, providing new activities for some of our older athletes. So far, our Wednesday evening events have included ice skating at Alexandra Palace and two bowling sessions. All of them have been a great success, with fierce competition as well as a lot of hilarity, but don’t take our word for it. Here’s a report from James...
"TEEN KEEN is really cool, so far we've been Ice Skating, bowling twice and tomorrow we're off to see the Spiderman 3D movie in Islington" James WA

FUNDRAISING NEWS
We have been the extremely grateful recipients of some recent, very generous grants.
The Lloyds TSB Foundation will be donating £20,000 over the course of the next two years which will make a substantial difference to the number of athletes we can welcome to our sessions and therefore the number of families we can support.
FC Business Intelligence are funding in full our first summer residential adventure (see below) at Hindleap Warren Adventure Centre.
OC&C Strategy Consultants have also donated the proceeds of their recent fundraising efforts which generated over £7,000. Another very welcome donation which will go a long way to supporting our work.
Richard Cloudesley’ s Charity, which has been very supportive in the past, has continued our great relationship by donating £5,000 - many thanks for their on-going support.
And finally, our friends at Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners are continuing to support us as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations. The raffle at their recent birthday party was a great success and five people from the London office braved the wintry July weather to complete the British 10k. Well done to them all!

TAKE SEAN'S CHALLENGE FOR MORE FUNDRAISING FUN
Can YOU beat the target?
One of the easiest ways to support KEEN is to do it while you shop online at www.easyfundraising.org.uk which makes an automatic donation (at no extra charge) every time you shop at over 200 online stores. It’s easy to do - all the details can be found here - and you can do it every time you shop at, among others, Amazon, EBay, John Lewis and Marks & Spencer.
Now, to make it even more fun, our Treasurer, Sean Murray, is issuing a challenge to everyone who supports KEEN. Sean says, “The challenge is simple: I want to see just how much we can raise with Easy Fundraising. Anyone who raises over £50 will receive a £10 Amazon voucher and if you overtake my own total, I’ll give you an extra £10 voucher!”
So don’t hang about, get shopping and see if you can win Sean’s Challenge!

MEET AN AMAZING ATHLETE...
Meet Ernie. He's 6 years old and has been a great addition to the KEEN family for the past year.
Ernie enjoys playing basketball at KEEN most of all and his favourite memory so far is "getting to ride all the bikes with Scott at the adventure playground!"
Ernie's mum, Clare, says, "KEEN Club (as Ernie calls it) makes him so happy – he loves seeing all his KEEN friends and looks forward to every session, which makes us happy too. Plus he gets a great chunk of Sunday afternoon exercise and activity with astute, aware care and support from a team of people who want for nothing but see that for us, Ernie is safe, engaged and his special needs are understood and met, but for Ernie, that he just has loads of fun!"

...AND A COOL COACH
Qi Zhang has been an awesome coach this year but we'll be saying a sad goodbye to him in August when his time at Imperial College comes to an end.
He started volunteering with KEEN because he always enjoyed working with children. It only took one session to convince him to become a regular.
Qi says, "It's the positive and lively atmosphere that makes being at KEEN great fun! And of course it's the people. I've met some of the most capable, responsible and dedicated volunteers at KEEN. Working with all them has been an inspirational experience. And it's even more inspiring to see what our athletes are capable of despite the difficulties and how much they can improve because of KEEN... And of course I like the Hokey Cokey! Who doesn't?!"
Goodbye and good luck from all your friends at KEEN!

SUMMER FUN
A first for KEEN
This summer we are undertaking an awesome adventure...14 athletes and 30 coaches are venturing into the Surrey countryside for a problem solving, obstacle course, mud filled, foraging weekend at the Hindleap Warren Adventure Centre. After visiting the centre, some senior coaches and I were extremely impressed with the level of provision that our athletes will experience at this awesome place. Photos and a write up will follow in our next newsletter.
